Match Prediction
It’s not uncommon for a match between Manchester City and Liverpool to have major ramifications for the Premier League title race.

However, the meeting between English football’s two most dominant teams in recent years takes on a different tone on Saturday.

Anything less than a win at Etihad Stadium would give Premier League leader Arsenal the opportunity to extend its lead and move closer to its first league title in 19 years. Arsenal leads City by eight points entering the final stretch of the season, despite having played one more game.

Liverpool’s chances of challenging at the top vanished long ago in a troubled season marred by injuries and inconsistent form. However, the team coached by Jurgen Klopp can still have a significant impact on the title race with games against Manchester City this weekend and Arsenal next month.

The priority for the Merseyside club, however, is to finish in the top four and thus qualify for next season’s Champions League. That is why the stakes on Saturday are so high. Even if they are not competing for the title, both teams need to win.

The last five league titles have been shared by the two teams, with City winning four and Liverpool winning one.

While Manchester City has undoubtedly had the upper hand in the rivalry, it only beat Liverpool by one point in two of those title victories. The most recent of these was last season, which is why Liverpool’s decline has surprised so many people.

If Liverpool fails to qualify for the Champions League, its absence from the title race could be prolonged because it will miss out on the revenue that comes with playing in Europe’s top club competition.

This could have an impact on Klopp’s offseason transfer plans, as at least one top midfielder is required to improve the team’s ageing midfield.

Jude Bellingham, one of Europe’s most sought-after players, has been linked with a move to Anfield from Borussia Dortmund. However, if Liverpool cannot offer him Champions League football, his chances of signing with them are slim.

With two games remaining, Liverpool is seven points behind fourth-place Tottenham. However, it is five points behind fifth-place Newcastle after playing the same number of games.

A team that won an unprecedented quadruple of trophies last season is fighting to salvage what’s left of the season, with Champions League qualification the best it can hope for.

City, on the other hand, can still win the Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup. However, time is running out to catch Arsenal.

A win over Liverpool would undoubtedly be a boost, especially with a game in hand on Arsenal and a home match against the league leaders coming up next month.

City is showing signs of a strong finish to the season, having lost only once in its last 14 games across all competitions. It has won its last six games, but is about to enter a critical stretch of games.

Following Liverpool, City will face Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarterfinals over two legs, Sheffield United in the FA Cup semifinals, and Arsenal in the league — all before the end of April.

Among those games are league matches against Southampton and Leicester.
