When the BJP announced the initial list of 189 candidates for Karnataka on Wednesday and omitted his name, Laxman Savadi resigned from the party.

Submitted by Nagarjun Dwarakanath and Apoorva Jayachandran: Laxman Savadi, a former deputy chief minister of Karnataka and a prominent member of the BJP, switched to the Congress on Friday after the saffron party refused to provide him a ticket for the state poll on May 10. “I am through with the BJP. Just moments before joining the Congress, he declared, “After I die, my dead body shouldn’t be carried in front of the BJP’s office.

Savadi resigned from the BJP on Wednesday after his name was omitted off the group’s initial list of 189 candidates for Karnataka. After losing the Athani constituency ticket, he resigned both from the BJP’s primary membership and the Legislative Council.

Despite our divergent political views, the Congress leaders welcomed me with open arms when I approached them about joining the party, and for that, Savadi expressed his gratitude.

“I had requested from the senior BJP officials a chance to run in the upcoming elections. I am delighted to join the Congress party today after leaving the BJP, he continued.

Savadi promised to offer the Congress and “those who have entrusted me with the opportunity” his all.

I am ignorant of adjustment politics… In the BJP, I had the opportunity to work with commitment. I want to declare that I’ll do the same kind of work as a Congress party employee,” he stated.

Basavaraj Bommai, the chief minister, expressed his sadness about Savadi joining the Congress by saying, “I feel extremely terrible about Laxman Savadi. In politics, this is fairly typical. He went to Congress because he envisaged a political career there. But there isn’t a candidate for the Congress in 60 of the districts. So they have hired certain individuals. However, the party won’t get anything from them.

Regarding the internal uprising and resignations over tickets, Bommai stated: “The demand for tickets in the ruling party is high. To run for office as MLAs, some people switched parties. However, the party’s genuine supporters resisted leaving. The third list will be made public by the BJP as soon as practicable. The nomination will be submitted tomorrow.

When announcing his departure, Savadi said: “I have decided. The person that parades about with a begging bowl is not me. I’m a respectable politician. No one has any control over how I’m acting.

One of the most powerful Lingayat leaders after BS Yediyurappa was Savadi, a supporter of the former. He lost to Mahesh Kumtahalli of the Congress in the 2018 elections.
