India Is In Negotiations With Over 12 Nations To Export Brahmos Missiles

Atul Dinkar Rane, the director general of BrahMos Aerospace, added that hypersonic missile technology bricks are being developed.

In order to export BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles, India is in talks with more than a dozen nations. This follows a deal it reached with the Philippines last year.

Additionally, according to its Director General Atul Dinkar Rane, BrahMos Aerospace is simultaneously developing new variations of its existing supersonic cruise missiles as well as hypersonic, precision-guided weapons.

Since we conducted our first flight trial in 2001, we have received inquiries from every nation in the world asking if they may purchase BrahMos. We had to serve the needs of our armed forces before anything else, but we do have some capacity left over,” he said.

“We secured our first order in 2022, and we are currently carrying it out. This merely made the door accessible. Right now, we’re in talks with over a dozen nations. Which ones and when, well, only time will tell,” Rane added.

Looking Towards Hypersonic Speed

Regarding other endeavours, the DG noted that while “technology bricks” are currently being developed and BrahMos missiles may be capable of reaching hypersonic speeds, the difficulty lies in producing weapon systems at a price that is reasonable for production volumes and induction.

Technology bricks are now being produced. Future research on production will be done. As I previously stated, both of our partners are striving to make the design produceable. Giving an update on the development of hypersonic missiles, he stated, “At this point, they have the technological building blocks in place; we only need to add mortar and put it together.

He would not, however, provide a projected completion date for the project. India is one of four nations working on creating hypersonic missiles.

Efforts that Succeed

Speaking at the BrahMos Industry Meet 2023, DG Rane stated that the joint venture between India and Russia currently has an order book of $6 billion, a significant increase from the aerospace company’s first modest $250 million capital infusion in 1998.

He told the crowd that planning and vision had made all of this possible. With the development of a BrahMos Missile Industrial Complex, the BrahMos model serves as a precursor to the future of Indian military manufacture, sustenance, and the first step towards self-reliance, he said.

The DG elaborated on the industry outreach by saying that the missile industrial consortium, established under the BrahMos, has brought together more than 200 Indian defence companies from the public and private sectors to design, develop, and deliver crucial components and sub-systems for one of the fastest, precision-guided weapons in the world.

India’s defence exports reached a record high of around $16,000 crore in 2022–23, a 23-fold increase over the $686 crore recorded in 2013–14.
