Arunachal Pradesh and Aksai Chin are shown on China’s most recent map as being within its borders.

On Tuesday, S. Jaishankar, the minister of external affairs, discussed China’s most recent map, which depicts Arunachal Pradesh and Aksai Chin as its own region.

It’s an established habit of theirs, Jaishankar stated in a statement to NDTV. These are definitely territory that belong to India. Our territories are defined quite clearly by this government. Claiming illogical territory doesn’t make it yours.

In the recently revealed map, China has also claimed Taiwan and the South China Sea in addition to Arunachal Pradesh and Aksai Chin, which it had previously captured during the 1962 war. Taiwan is regarded by Beijing as a part of the Chinese mainland, and President Xi Jinping of China has made it one of his stated goals to integrate Taiwan into the Chinese mainland.

Counterclaims over the South China Sea areas have been made by Taiwan, Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei, and Malaysia.

Chinese state-run Global Times posted on social media network X, formerly known as Twitter, that “the 2023 edition of China’s standard map was officially released and launched on the website of the standard map service hosted by the Ministry of Natural Resources” on Monday.

China’s provocative map comes days before the G20 conference, which will be held in India from September 8 to 10. The ceremony in Delhi will be attended by a number of foreign leaders, including US president Joe Biden, French president Emmanuel Macron, and Chinese president Xi Jinping.

At the BRICS summit in Johannesburg last week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Jinping had a brief meeting. The huge deployment of PLA forces in East Ladakh raised worries from Prime Minister Modi during the conversation. The PM emphasized that disengagement and de-escalation along the 3,488 kilometer LAC are necessary steps on the path to normalization.

Since their forces clashed in the Galwan Valley three years ago, India and China’s relations have been tense. There have been 19 rounds of military-level negotiations between the two nations since then.
