Premier League: According to Sterling, Chelsea’s downturn is one of the lowest times of his career
After losing to Arsenal on Tuesday by a score of 3-1, Chelsea dropped to 12th place in the rankings and was headed for its worst season since the 1993–1994 one.
Raheem Sterling said that Chelsea’s poor play this year has been one of his career’s low periods, but he thinks the long-term benefits of the difficulties could make the Premier League squad stronger.
Despite significant player spending, including Sterling’s $47.5 million ($60 million) deal from Manchester City, Chelsea’s 3-1 loss to Arsenal on Tuesday left it in 12th place in the rankings and heading for its worst season since the 1993–94 season.
The England international has only scored seven goals in 34 appearances for Chelsea, unable to match the form that made him an important member of a squad that won ten major titles.
“In my opinion, this is one of my lowest times in my professional life. This may sound a little strange, but it is also a tremendous learning curve,” Sterling said in an interview with Sky Sports that was released on Saturday.
“It’s been pretty easy going winning, winning, winning, but sometimes in life stuff gets thrown at you and it is a challenge that I’m looking forward to, hitting it head on and not trying to hide from it,” the speaker said.
