Clark Haggans, a former outside linebacker for the Steelers and Super Bowl champion, passed away on Wednesday morning at the age of 46, a team representative said.

According to a press statement from the Larimer County Coroner’s Office, on Monday, they went to a home in Fort Collins, Colorado, to look into the death of a man they had identified as Haggans. The reason and manner of death are still under investigation after an autopsy was performed on Wednesday, according to the coroner’s office. There was no sign of wrongdoing.

Clark Haggans, a former outside linebacker for the Steelers and Super Bowl champion, passed away on Wednesday morning at the age of 46, a team representative said.

Haggans spent eight seasons in Pittsburgh after being selected by the Steelers in the fifth round of the 2000 NFL Draught out of Colorado State. He started with former colleague Joey Porter on the squad that defeated the Seattle Seahawks to win Super Bowl XL in 2006. On the first drive of the game, Haggans had five tackles and sacked quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, capping up a season in which he had a career-high nine sacks and four forced fumbles.

During his final four seasons in Pittsburgh, Haggans started every game and concluded his stay with the Steelers with 332 tackles, 32.5 sacks, 12 forced fumbles, one interception, and three fumble recoveries.

Haggans played for the Arizona Cardinals for four seasons after leaving Pittsburgh, then in 2012, after playing for the San Francisco 49ers for one more season, he announced his retirement. Having recorded 33 career sacks, he currently retains the Colorado State record. In 2015, he was put into the school’s hall of fame.
