In an interview, Kedar discusses joining the MPL, his comeback to RCB, and his desire to play for India again after accruing First-Class and T20 league runs

In a country with 1.4 billion people who are passionate about cricket, making the Indian cricket team is difficult. But keeping your spot with a steady performance is much more difficult. Recent competition has been so fierce that, regardless of the format, only the captain’s spot is safe in the team, let alone in the starting XI. And it has been observed over the past decade or so that a large number of players have succeeded in donning the Indian shirt but have fallen out of favour quickly. Keep in mind Kedar Jadhav, the athlete renowned for his powerful strikes and peculiar side-arm bowling motion. Even though he wasn’t a reliable batter, the Pune-based cricketer had become as one of the key figures under Virat Kohli’s direction until losing out to younger candidates after the 2019 World Cup.

The 38-year-old played in the IPL during the 2021 season, keeping him in front of Indian fans, but after that he disappeared into obscurity. He made a triumphant comeback in First-Class cricket in January 2023, scoring 283 runs for Maharashtra. Kedar received a chance to play in the IPL when he was called up as a replacement for Royal Challengers Bangalore at the tail end of the season after scoring two fifties and another century in six innings in the Ranji Trophy. After the season, he turned his attention to the Maharashtra Premier League (MPL), where he is the team captain of Kolhapur Tuskers. On Tuesday, he even scored an incredible 85 runs while opening the batting against Solapur Royals.
