The Trinamool Congress, represented at the meeting by MP Derek O’Brien, also called for an all-party meet mission to visit Manipur.

Several politicians from opposition parties voiced their concerns about Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh’s leadership during an all-party conference that Union home minister Amit Shah called on Saturday to examine the current situation in the state. Manipur is governed by the Bharatiya Janata Party. The Congress urged that Singh be quickly replaced as prime minister, claiming that Singh cannot bring about peace in the violent Manipur.

The high-level meetings were convened in New Delhi to assess the state’s current condition of affairs as it attempts to return to normality following the outbreak of ethnic riots on May 3.

The entire Opposition voiced their concern at the meeting that it would not be feasible to restore peace “until that person is in-charge” after Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Manoj Jha lambasted the CM’s handling of the situation and said “there is absolutely no trust in him”

You cannot have peace till that person is in charge because there is absolutely no faith in the person leading the administration there (in Manipur). After the discussion, Jha told reporters that the opposition had emphasised that Manipur needed a healing touch and that it needed a face that would bring people together rather than drive them apart.

Similar comments were expressed by Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi when she spoke with the media. According to Chaturvedi, she has interacted with a number of Manipur communities that “don’t trust the CM.” She continued, “The state government is where accountability begins.

Tiruchi Siva, the leader of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, claimed that Amit Shah asked the opposition parties to trust him, that he is monitoring the situation in Manipur, and that he has promised that “he will restore the peace.”

The DMK leader expressed concern about Modi’s lack of response to the situation. “We demanded that Manipur receive the all-party delegation,” Amit Shah stated that more police had been deployed as per our recommendation. To be controlled by the police, the army, or Assam rifles does not constitute a breakdown in law and order. He continued by criticising the federal government, saying, “It is a failure of the governance in the state and the union government.

The Trinamool Congress, represented at the meeting by MP Derek O’Brien, also called for an all-party meet mission to visit Manipur. The TMC said that the government was “ignoring” the demands of the people of Manipur in a statement prepared for the all-party conference, and it questioned whether the Modi administration was “trying to turn Manipur into Kashmir.”

On May 3, when confrontations broke out during a demonstration sponsored by the All Tribals Students Union (ATSU), Manipur was rocked by violence. The demonstration was organised in opposition to the demand that Meiteis be included to the Scheduled Tribe (ST) list.

Senior BJP officials, including party president JP Nadda and Union minister Piyush Goyal, among others, attended the all-party meeting. But the Communist Party of India was not given a meeting invitation.
