If Play Is Postponed On September 10 Due To Rain, The India Vs. Pakistan Super 4 Match In The Asia Cup Will Have A Reserve Day

The Super 4 match between India and Pakistan, which was initially scheduled on Sunday (September 10), has been moved to a reserve day, according to a statement from the Asian Cricket Council on Friday. This choice was made in expectation that bad weather conditions would prevent a full match from being played on the initial scheduled day due to weather predictions that rain will likely fall on Sunday.

The Super11 Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 match between India and Pakistan, which is set to take place on September 10, 2023 at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo, has a reserve day built in, according to a statement from the ACC.

“The India vs. Pakistan game will resume on September 11, 2023, from the point it was suspended, if inclement weather prevents play. Ticket holders are urged to keep their match tickets, which will still be valid and used on the reserve day, in such a case.

It’s interesting that the Super 4 game between these two bitter rivals is the only one with a reserve day. Despite the impending week of rain in Colombo, according to ESPN Cricinfo, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the tournament’s official hosts, initially backed the idea of moving the Colombo games to Hambantota. The ACC eventually announced that the games would take place in Colombo as originally planned.

The PCB subsequently complained to ACC president Jay Shah in a letter, raising issues with the decision-making procedure, but ultimately consented to the call.

Rain to be a jerk once more?

Rain in Kandy during the last match between India and Pakistan caused only one innings’ worth of play before the game was called. Due to the ongoing rain, India was unable to return to bowl after scoring 266.

In addition, there is still a potential that rain would interfere with the India-Pakistan game on Sunday. The likelihood of precipitation is up to 90%.

Should the weather improve, the Indian team management would like to give the bowlers crucial playing time against a strong opponent; India’s best fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, who missed the match against Nepal due to the birth of his child, may also be able to make his way back into the starting lineup for the pivotal match in Colombo. KL Rahul, an Indian batsman who traveled to Sri Lanka earlier this week and participated in practice net sessions in advance of India’s Super 4 campaign, will also be watched closely.
