Joe And Jill Biden Sob As They Visit The Scenes Of The Shootings In Maine

US President Joe Biden noted that the most recent mass shooting has left deep wounds across the country during a somber visit to the two locations in Lewiston, Maine, where a gunman killed eighteen people last month.

Alongside Biden was his wife Jill. “We’re here to grieve with you, so you know you’re not alone,” Biden said.

The Bidens visited the Just-In-Time Recreation bowling alley, where patrons were slain by gunshots, after placing a spray of flowers at a monument for the dead that had been set up outside Schemengees Bar & Grille.

Just two weeks after meeting with survivors of a Hamas militant strike that claimed 1,400 lives in southern Israel, the trip served as yet another trial of Biden’s capacity to comfort those impacted by sorrow. Since taking office in early 2021, Biden stated that he had been to “too many” horrific shooting locations. On October 25, a shooter opened fire on patrons at the bar and bowling alley, leaving 13 people injured and 18 people dead in the small rural village.

The murderer was identified as 40-year-old U.S. Army reservist Robert R. Card. Inside a cargo trailer parked on the lot of a recycling facility where he had previously worked, he committed suicide.

Reiterating his long-shot call for action to stop the epidemic of gun violence, Biden expressed optimism that both Democrats and Republicans may eventually come to an agreement.

“This is about common sense, reasonable, responsible measures to protect our children, our families, our communities,” he stated.

Following his speech, the Bidens had private meetings with victims of the massacre, including family members, neighbors, and first responders.

The White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention’s Stefanie Feldman stated, “President Biden is committed to marshaling resources from across the federal government to support Lewiston every step of the way. Recovering from this attack will be long and difficult.”

She said that Biden would keep pressing Congress to pass the delayed gun safety measure.

Representative Jared Golden of the United States, whose constituents perished in the most recent mass shooting in the country, changed his mind and is now in favor of a ban on assault-style weapons.

However, Biden’s reversal of opinion does not alter the situation in Washington, where Republicans who control the House of Representatives and support gun rights have made Biden’s campaign to reintroduce the ban on such weapons unpopular.
