PM Trudeau of Canada stated:

We celebrate Diwali with millions of people in Canada and throughout the globe today.

We celebrate Diwali with millions of people in Canada and throughout the globe today. Families and friends get together on this happy occasion to worship, exchange gifts, eat together, and decorate their houses and temples with color and diya radiance to symbolize the victory of light over darkness.

Diwali is also a moment to consider the virtues of optimism, selflessness, thankfulness, and kindness toward the less fortunate. In addition to acknowledging the numerous contributions made by Canadians from the Buddhist, Sikh, Jain, and Hindu groups to the cultural fabric of our nation, we also commemorate Diwali and their part in creating Canada the welcoming and varied nation we call home.

I’d want to wish everyone celebrating a very happy Diwali on behalf of all Canadians.

The prime minister of Canada also wished Sikhs “Band Chhor Divas” in another statement. It commemorates the release of Guru Hargobind Singh by Mughal King Jahangir and is observed on Diwali every year.

PM of Canada stated:

This significant day honors the life of the sixth Guru, Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji, who, upon being released from captivity, demanded the liberation of the 52 innocent kings who had been imprisoned with him. His tale continues to uphold the ideals of selflessness and charity in Sikhs throughout, even after several generations.

Today, families and friends will gather to celebrate Bandi Chhor Divas by reading the Guru Granth Sahib, watching fireworks, lighting candles in their homes and Gurdwaras, and sharing festive meals and sweets.

For those who observe the festival, it serves as a reminder that when society unites, we can create a world that values community, freedom, and peace. Recognizing the contributions made by Sikh Canadians throughout history to the development of a more diversified and better nation is another opportunity presented by this day.

I wish everyone celebrating a joyful Bandi Chhor Divas on behalf of the Government of Canada.

At a Diwali and Bandi Chorr Divas ceremony earlier on Wednesday, Justin Trudeau lit candles on Ottawa’s Parliament Hill to commemorate the festival.
