Virat Kohli has the chance to break multiple records in RCB’s IPL 2023 match against KKR on Thursday.

Not for the first time, and certainly not the last. Virat Kohli will resume his quest for a slew of T20 records when the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) visit the den of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Thursday. In their IPL 2023 opener at home, RCB’s batting maestro Kohli aced a memorable run chase against record-time winners Mumbai Indians (MI).

Kohli has established himself as one of the leading contenders for the Orange Cap at the IPL 2023 after regaining top form in the run-up to the cash-rich league. The former RCB captain is set to cap off a record-breaking season in Bangalore’s upcoming match against a struggling KKR side at Eden Gardens. Interestingly, the 34-year-old will attempt to break all kinds of T20 records in the blockbuster match between Bangalore and Kolkata.

Superstar Kohli, a gun fielder, is six catches away from completing an unprecedented century in the IPL. Kohli has 94 catches in his glittering IPL career. Kohli will make his 225th appearance for RCB in the world’s richest T20 league. The veteran batter made his IPL debut in 2008 against KKR at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium.

The former RCB captain is 92 runs away from completing 11,500 runs in the game’s shortest format. Kohli has amassed over 6,700 runs in the prestigious tournament. The IPL’s all-time leading run-getter has 5 centuries and 45 half-centuries for Bangalore.

Kohli has a strike rate of 175 against Umesh Yadav, who is expected to spearhead Kolkata’s bowling attack at Eden Gardens on Thursday. Kohli is also 29 runs away from joining the 500-run club at Eden Gardens. Kohli has scored 471 runs at the famous venue in T20 cricket. Nitish Rana, KKR’s stand-in skipper, is only 8 runs away from achieving the same feat at Eden Gardens.

Previously, Kohli became the first Indian batter to record 50 fifty-plus scores in the IPL. The former Bangalore captain also became the third batter in the IPL, following Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers, to score a century of sixes at the Chinnaswamy stadium. Kohli’s brilliant 82-ball knock secured RCB’s 8-wicket victory over Mumbai.
